The contamination of surface and coastal waters due to the lack of purification of sewage and uncontrolled dumping, added to the large amounts of garbage, becomes a trigger that causes the reduction of biodiversity and has negative effects on human health.


The municipalities of the region have the serious problem of facing the effects of deforestation, the weakness in the management of wastewater and the lack of resources in the disposal of solid waste in a sustainable and adequate manner. These problems have been increasing year by year and the communes have not been able to provide an adequate service to the population.               
              

With the Mesoamerican Congress ECOTECH 2019, it is intended not only to analyze the problem, but also to present successful experiences to face these challenges, in addition to presenting new technology adapted to the region to solve these problems and the management of financing for its acquisition. .               
              

Now a Mesoamerican Congress is being held for the first time in the city of Quetzaltenango Guatemala organized in an alliance, by the Linneaus University; the University of San Carlos of Guatemala through the University Center of the West, the National Association of Municipalities, ANAM; the Mancomunidad Metropolis de los Altos and the forestry company SWECA S.A.

ECOTECH 2019

Technological innovation,

for a cleaner future


The ECOTECH Mesoamerican Congress will take place on 6, 7 and 8 March 2019 at the Gran Karmel Convention Center, in the city of Quetzaltenango, and the participation of 340 municipalities of the Republic of Guatemala and invited municipalities of the Central American region. In addition to the academy, local and international companies.

CENTRAL AXIS

The central axis of ECOTECH 2019 is the presentation of 3 important issues facing the municipalities of the Central American region, aggravated by Climate Change are:


  1. Deforestation that is causing crisis throughout the region, generating problems of landslides, erosion, pollution and the disappearance of water sources.
  2.                     
  3. Water management , mainly the management of sewage or gray water, which pollutes bodies of water in general
  4.                     
  5. The disposal of solid waste , which generates great pollution.

CONGRESS STRATEGY

First day: An analysis-diagnosis of the current situation of the 3 subjects in the Central American region, dictated by international experts               

Second day: 3 simultaneous Forums with the presentation of successful experiences in the treatment of the 3 topics. Also, presentation of Swedish companies, local companies and other international, technological solutions aimed at the issues.               

Third day: Business round with the presence of financial institutions to support the acquisition of one or more technologies by the municipalities.

In this Mesoamerican Congress, the University of Linnaeus, as well as Swedish companies and local companies, will present alternatives with state-of-the-art technology for the resolution of the problems derived from the main topics of the Congress. Likewise, it will be supported with the possibilities of resource management for the acquisition of technology by the municipalities.
